What is EBSI?
European Blockchain Services Infrastructure:
The European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) was established in 2018 through the collaboration of 29 countries, including all EU member states, Norway, and Liechtenstein, alongside the EU Commission. This initiative, part of the European Blockchain Partnership (EBP), aims to utilize blockchain technology to create dependable, cross-border services for public administrations, businesses, and citizens. EBSI operates as a multifaceted blockchain network supporting various use cases such as document notarization, diploma certification, and trusted data sharing. Its vision is to emerge as a flexible network for collaborative cross-border public services.
What is EDIC?
European Digital Infrastructure Consortium:
The European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) is a legal framework vital to EBSI, facilitating Member States in implementing multi-country blockchain projects. EDIC provides the legal structure necessary for the sustainable operation and management of the EBSI infrastructure. It combines funding from Member States, EU grants, and other sources, ensuring the necessary scale and flexibility for EBSI's governance. EDIC plays a key role in supporting EBSI's mission of providing seamless, cross-border blockchain-based public services across Europe.
RBN Authentication Model & ESSIF Integration
Empowering Digital Identity with SSI:
RBN integrates with the Self-Sovereign Identity (SSI) model for authentication, specifically the European SSI Framework (ESSIF), utilizing Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials. The integration includes a wallet based on walt.id, that supports the EU trust model. ESSIF operates atop EBSI, facilitating the issuance and validation of verifiable credentials as part of the broader SSI model.
Our RBN authentication model together with ESSIF integration is subject to eIDAS regulation. Which could include for example European Wallet integration, which all falls under the same subject of the EU trust model. This setup ensures a distributed trust mechanism, leveraging EBSI and DIDs to authenticate operators without compromising user privacy.
